Lisa Ann Walter To Sign Books, Then Host The Mr. Midnight Movie Film Festival

Friday, August 19th (7:30pm) at Every Picture Tells a Story, actress/comedian Lisa Ann Walter will be signing her new book "The Best Thing About My Ass Is That It's Behind Me" in person!  Stop on by to purchase a copy and meet her in one of Santa Monica's most cherished book stores.

“The Best Thing About My Ass Is That It’s Behind Me” is a brutally honest and comical look at a chronic self-loather and former “chubby” girl trying to make it in the glamorous world of size “0” Hollywood . Missing her stand-up days, Lisa became a member of the KFI lineup where she can make people laugh on a regular basis through her radio gig, The Fabulous Lisa Ann Walter Show.

Then she will be stepping across the street to the Aero Theatre to host the film festival, which is dedicated to celebrating the midnight movie genre's odd historical past.  Precedences set by films such as the Rocky Horror Picture Show and John Waters' classics are the inspiration.  The festival will be presenting 6 original short films and begins at 9:20pm.

SIGN THE PETITION TO LEGALIZE CANING FOR CONVICTED CRIMINALS IN CALIFORNIA

The crime rate in Singapore is one of the lowest in the world. They have a Crime Rate Per 100,000 population of 650. The United States alone has a Crime Rate Per 100,000 population of 4249.4, with the State of California ranking 15th in the country for highest crime rate.

Following a similar model that implements caning as punishment, as done in Singapore, is a better deterrent for criminals than the current system that is in place.  Caning as punishment can match crimes at various levels of seriousness, ranging from theft to domestic abuse. 

This petition, if made a law, would potentially save California $135 million dollars in 2012, with a potential long term benefits in the billions of dollars over the course of several years as the result of lowered crime rates.

Prostitution is the world’s oldest profession. It also one of the worlds most dangerous. The murder rate for an American prostitute is 204 for every 100,000, with the violent crime rate terribly higher even though most go unreported. Legalizing prostitution will allow for the the protection of these workers and allow for regular testing to prevent the spread of STD in America.

Aside from saving countless lives, the financial benefits of legalizing prostitution will have a potentially large impact for the State of California. Tax revenue generated by the legalization of prostitution would exceed $200 million in 2012, with potential tax revenues to increase exponentially in future years.
